Everyone is always telling Mary Emma to slow down. But when a Mississippi River barge brings home some important cargo, she has to leap, dodge, and dash her way across town to greet it.

 

Inspired by the author's memories of growing up in Monona, Iowa in the 1960s, this heartwarming children's book transports readers to the charms of small town life where everyone knows each other-- and cares enough to say "WALK!"

 

Nancy Marshall tells other people to "walk" ( . . . and okay, run too) as a fitness specialist in Northwest Iowa. Nancy grew up in Monona, Iowa, just fifteen miles from the Mississippi River where her grandfather worked on a barge. The simple joys and warm memories with her grandmother inspired this book.
